Route description

Starting from the main entrance into Pokagon State Park, SR 727 travels due east through a heavily forested area. Curving to the southeast, SR 727's journey comes to an abrupt end upon arriving at its junction with SR 127. Less than 0.25-mile (0.40 km) southeast of this intersection, SR 127 meets I-69 at Exit 154. [2]

History

Until 1967, when the northernmost stretch of I-69 in Indiana was completed, this route was designated as SR 127, and SR 727 referred to another short. That route went east from State Road 327 (SR 327) to State Road 4 (SR 4) toward Ashley. In Ashley SR 727 heads north then east toward Pleasant Lake, SR 4 headed east toward U.S. Route 27 (US 27). The western part of SR 727, between SR 327 and Ashley, of the route is now number as the eastern part of SR 4 and the part east of Ashley is now known as DeKalb - Steuben County Line Road.[3]

Major intersections

The entire route is in Jamestown Township, Steuben County.
